Support the Austin art community by attending a reception for artists Michael Drake and Darvin Jones celebrating new works by both artists. Their works will be on display at the Austin Art Garage from February 18th to March 24th, but see them first with the artists and their supporters on Thursday, February 18th from 7 to 9PM. Austin Art Garage is located at 2200 S. Lamar Blvd., Ste J, and was created to bring  local artists into the spotlight to expose their talents to the city. The Art Garage allows for gallery viewing with both in-person and online price listings to make purchasing art an easy and affordable way to support the Austin art community.

Michael Drake combines city skylines, bright abstract colors, and iconic classic Americana signage to create mixed media and acrylic pieces for display. His style reflects Postmodern and Minimalist, and Drake primarily works with paint, graphite, charcoal and ink, sometimes combining nontraditional media. His work gives a unique portrait of balancing city life with small town nothingness, which can be noted from the influence of dividing his time between Marfa and Brooklyn.

Darvin Jones‘ art emulates a modern graphic design aesthetic, is reflective of the natural design and chaos found in our everyday world, and he manages to create captivating pieces with the addition of personalized meaning. His work explores cultural iconography, appropriation, ecology and the mass production of culture. Jones creates acrylic on canvas pieces mixing bold design and beautiful imagery.
