Cinema East – Harmony and Me | Baby Blue Studios -  1522 East 12th St | Free | Sunday, July 11th

8pm – 12am

If you haven’t been to a Cinema East event yet this Summer, you’re missing out. Intimate, outdoor space, Baby Blue Studios plays host to this bi-weekly Sunday evening movie viewing party, perfect for a chill gathering with friends, a date, or way to wind down your week. On Sunday, July 11th, Cinema East welcomes “Harmony and Me,” a deadpan comedy by director Bob Byington set in Austin telling the story of a voluble young lyricist named Harmony (played by Justin Rice, lead singer of Bishop Allen) who experiences anguish after a bad breakup. Watch Harmony fight to win his girl as he is joined by sidekick Carlos (played by Kevin Corrigan of Pineapple Express fame) to navigate loss and love with comedic timing.

The film has received a bevy of honors including an Annenberg Fellowship from the Sundance Institute in 2008, and director Byington was recently awarded the Stanley Kubrick Award for “Bold and Innovative Filmmaking” at the Traverse City Film Festival. After a World Premiere at the 2009 New Directors/New Films Festival, the picture has shown at the Los Angeles Film Festival as well as the Edinburgh International Film Festival. See this award-winning feature for one night only in Austin at this unique event of watching cinema under the stars.

The Get Down DJs, who host a Saturday night weekly event at Karibu Ethiopian Restaurant, will be opening the night from 8pm-9pm as visual projections from SoundSpectrum match their beats in the background.  Come early, mingle, get some food and drink, and find a seat before as the movie begins promptly at 9pm.

The night will kick off with a  short film by Cassandra Lee Hamilton titled The Miraculous Tale of the Children Dubois, which is a  tale of young Juliette and her twin brother Nikolai, the former forced into a life without magic, until Nikolai returns from the great beyond to shepherd her back to the innocence of her childhood. Juliette must decide between the reality of her present or the magic of her youth. Winner of the Best Non-European Dramatic Short at European Independent Film Festival 2010, and Cassandra Hamilton will be present for Q&A afterwards.

Event sponsors Karibu Ethiopian Restaurant, Laced With Romance Vintage pop-up store, Frank hot dogs, and  Daily Juice will be set up to serve delicious food, drinks, and fashionable shopping.

Be sure to bring a blanket or chair as seating is limited.
